Harris County Jail Is
not where I wanna be but, It’s
where GOD wants me to be right now. I’ve been locked up here this time since
May 2013. I’ve never In my life thought I’d be here
this long. On January 17, 2014, I was sentenced to 8 years TDC. I’ve never been
to state jail or TDC before, so I was shocked when the judge gave me time. I
originally signed a motion for probation and the judge denied It and sentenced me to time In TDC. I Immediately
filed a motion to appeal the judges’ decision. The appeal Is
what has kept me In the county jail this long. My conviction was affirmed in
December 2013. The appellate court said I was granted a fair trial and they
upheld the judges’ decision. My appeal lawyer got the mandate recalled and sent
to the highest court of appeals, which Is where my
case resides at the moment. So all In all, I might be here another year waiting
on the highest court of appeals to do their thing. Besides that, time In jail Is only what you make It. The hardest part of doing
time Is finding a routine that works for you because
the county’s already got a schedule they’ve set for you. You know what time
you’re going to eat, when laundry’s coming, when commissary’s coming, etc. So
you have to make your schedule fit around the one that’s already set. I’m
currently enrolled In the Freedom Project which Is an In house substance abuse
program that’s connected with the City Of Houston’s Re-Entry Program which
helps Inmates get back readjusted to society when we get out. I’m also In the
Men Of Purpose. This Is a
leadership class that teaches how to be better Christians and also leaders
amongst our peers. I’m also taking a class associated with Men Of Purpose called Malachi Dad’s. This class teaches us how
to also be better Christians as well as better father’s to our kids. Right now
I don’t have any kids but, I’ve got two nieces, so this class gives me a lot of
knowledge I can use down the line In life. All In all, I’m happy to be getting
as much knowledge as I can while I’m here In the
county. I plan to enroll In as many classes as I’m
allowed.
