FREEDOM
(UNBREAK THE CHAINS)
Dear Readers,
I
am an African American male who has added to the negative stereotype that
society portray us as by continuously becoming incarcerated. My potential is limitless if I can just stay
out of trouble. I am also a college
graduate, which is rare for a person in my predicament. Breaking this cycle of repeat offending is
necessary if I want a life of fulfillment.
My downfall has been alcohol.
Alcohol doesn’t keep me from taking care of my business such as going to
work or supporting myself, however it has been the catalyst to my trouble with
the law. Adding to the statistics that
say black males are more prone to jail than college really upsets me, cause of
all the squandered opportunities I’ve had to be a positive versus a
negative.
